A 5G cabinet lives outdoors for 15+ years through monsoon, coastal salt fog and daily thermal swings that pump humidity through every joint. Its fasteners do more mechanical work than any indoor equivalent.
Bottom line: for most Sealing Series applications the decision comes down to load, environment and assembly method — the Sealing Series guide walks through the selection.
First, seal relaxation: thermal cycling walks screws loose and gaskets take a set — prevailing-torque screws plus compression stops hold the window. Second, crevice corrosion under heads on painted sheet: sealing washers or under-head beads close the gap. Third, service-induced leaks: every technician visit re-compresses gaskets differently, so captive screws with defined stop geometry keep compression repeatable.
Combine IPX5/IPX7 water tests with cyclic salt spray on the assembled cabinet. Topprecision has supported telecom OEMs through exactly this validation loop, supplying matched hardware sets with per-lot test documentation.
| Type | Seal mechanism | IP rating | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| O-ring under-head screw | Compressed O-ring seal | IP67/IP68 | Outdoor enclosures, 5G cabinets |
| Nylon pellet sealing screw | Nylon compresses into thread gap | IP65 | Indoor equipment, light sealing |
| Sealing plug (threaded) | O-ring + hex socket | IP68 | Die-casting vent holes, hydraulic |
| Gasket-faced screw | Bonded sealing washer | IP65 | Automotive, general outdoor |
Toprecision supplies O-ring sealing screws, nylon-pellet sealing screws, sealing plugs and gasket-faced screws in stainless 304/316 for IP65–IP68 applications. Send the enclosure material and IP rating — we will recommend the sealing type and supply salt-spray test results. Request sealing fastener support.
5G cabinets face salt spray, UV exposure, and temperature swings from -40 to +85 °C. Fasteners in outdoor enclosures need at least 720 hours of salt spray protection — zinc-nickel plating or stainless 316. Avoid standard zinc plating: it fails within 200 hours in coastal environments. Also use corrosion-resistant lubricant on the threads to prevent galvanic coupling between stainless screws and aluminum housings.
