Teams chase IP67 with elaborate gaskets, then sabotage the rating with default fasteners. Every screw crossing the seal line is a potential leak path.
Bottom line: for most Sealing Series applications the decision comes down to load, environment and assembly method — the Sealing Series guide walks through the selection.
Outside-the-seal screws (mounting feet, brackets) are conventional. Inside-the-seal screws are invisible to water but must not pierce the wall. On-the-seal screws — cover attachments landing directly on the gasket — are the critical zone: they set gasket compression and create their own penetration.
IP validation should run after thermal cycling and vibration, because gasket relaxation and screw back-out appear only under combined stress. Toprecision supplies sealing-grade fastener sets — including O-ring under-head screws and captive variants — and participates in customer IP pre-tests to tune compression windows before the design freeze.
| Type | Seal mechanism | IP rating | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| O-ring under-head screw | Compressed O-ring seal | IP67/IP68 | Outdoor enclosures, 5G cabinets |
| Nylon pellet sealing screw | Nylon compresses into thread gap | IP65 | Indoor equipment, light sealing |
| Sealing plug (threaded) | O-ring + hex socket | IP68 | Die-casting vent holes, hydraulic |
| Gasket-faced screw | Bonded sealing washer | IP65 | Automotive, general outdoor |
Toprecision supplies O-ring sealing screws, nylon-pellet sealing screws, sealing plugs and gasket-faced screws in stainless 304/316 for IP65–IP68 applications. Send the enclosure material and IP rating — we will recommend the sealing type and supply salt-spray test results. Request sealing fastener support.
An IP67 enclosure is only as good as its fasteners. Standard screws without sealing washers leak at the thread interface. When specifying IP-rated enclosures, use sealing screws with an O-ring under the head, or apply a conformal coating to the entire assembly. Remember: IP ratings are tested at the product level, not the fastener level. A single unsealed screw can drop an IP67 box to IP54.
