Drive selection looks cosmetic and acts structural: the wrong drive strips heads, slows lines and frustrates service techs. The physics is torque transfer efficiency.
Bottom line: for most Anti-Loosening Series applications the decision comes down to load, environment and assembly method — the Anti-Loosening Series guide walks through the selection.
Hexalobular (Torx-class) drives transfer torque through six radial flanks with near-zero radial ejection force — minimal cam-out, highest practical torque for head size. Hex sockets follow, then Phillips, whose intentional cam-out design (born for assembly lines, not for clamp load) makes it the weakest for controlled tightening. Slotted survives only where flat-blade tools are tradition.
Bit cost differences are trivial; stripped-head rework and line stops are not. Topprecision manufactures the full drive family with hardened drive geometry, and advises customers by assembly process — because the right drive is the one your line, tools and service model agree on.
